orient

Orient (オリエント, Oriento ) is a Sengoku period-themed Japanese fantasy manga written and illustrated by Shinobu Ohtaka. It was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine from May 2018 to January 2021 and later transferred to Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in February 2021. The individual chapters are published in tankōbon format by Kodansha.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga for English release in North America in both digital[1] and print[2] version.

An anime television series adaptation by A.C.G.T was announced[3] and premiered on January 2022.

The story was inspired by Japan's Sengoku period with it's warring states and samurais so we come across many familiar names from the History books through this fantasy. However it also contains many elements from the Japanese folklore stories and some modern features as well.

Plot

The story revolves around a boy named Musashi and his childhood friend Kojiro, who are aiming to become the greatest Bushis ever in a world that is under the rule of the Onis. These mysterious creatures appeared out of nowhere 150 years before the beginning of the story and took over the land of Hi no Moto, but a small number of Bushis are still fighting against them to free humanity from their rule and unify the world. The two boys will face many adventures and hardships during their journey, including fighting against Onis and meeting new friends and foes to be able to realize their dreams.
